Open Your Eyes
“…man’s task, is to become conscious of the contents that press upward from the unconscious…As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.” - Carl Jung
This might come as a shock, but a huge portion of who we really are, what we are capable of, what we enjoy, why we do what we do…aka things which make up our personality and identity are beyond our comprehension. If you strip away anything that identifies you as yourself (work, family, friends, hobbies, etc.) do you know who you are? You sit in the room with your parents, you are a daughter/son, you go to work and you are an employee, you go out with friends, you are a friend; so who are you when none of that is there? Many people don’t know, and they don’t know where to begin to look for answers because they have become so used to being who they have been told to be their entire life. If you want to get to know yourself better, become a better person, understand your actions and more, you can do so through a process called individuation.
Individuation: in order to come into a more authentic state of being an individual must make a portion of the psyche conscious by tapping into it and integrating it into the whole of their awareness.
In my personal opinion, the reason so many people struggle to be happy, or spend their lives buying material items to fulfill the need they have inside them, it is because they have no idea who they are as a person, and that can scare people, subconsciously or consciously. The need to fill your life with possessions and people is because you need to have an identity. But that is not your identity, that is what you imagine it to be. Once a person realizes that nobody cares as much about them as they themselves do, they can begin to go layer by layer into discovering themself as a person.
Many people think it is so hard to understand yourself, to unlock your unconscious, to “know all about yourself”, but how hard have they really tried? One hour of meditation and listening to a podcast isn’t gonna give you the answers you’re looking for, and if you aren’t willing to take the time, then you’d better try and become satisfied with living your made up life. Sounds harsh, but like I said, that’s just my personal opinion.
